Fioricet is a prescription pain medication that's specifically designed to provide fast relief from tension headaches due to stress, anxiety, fatigue, poor posture, overexertion and is a pain reliever and fever reducer.

How does Fioricet work?

Fioricet is acetaminophen/butalbital/caffeine combination that works to constrict dilated blood vessels that contribute to headache pain, and by helping to slow down nerve impulses so that you can relax.

How do you take Fioricet?

Take Fioricet exactly as directed by your doctor. For tension headaches, the normal prescribed dose for adults is 1-2 capsules or tablets every four hours as needed (not to exceed more than 6 pills within a 24-hour period).

Fioricet precautions

If more severe side effects occur, such as an allergic reaction, slow or weak breathing, liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue), or low blood sugar (fatigue, increased hunger or thirst, dizziness, or fainting) stop taking Fioricet and seek emergency medical attention.

What to tell your doctor

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have had kidney disease, liver disease or any drug reactions you may have experienced.

Fioricet side effects

Common side effects you may experience while you are taking Fioricet include the following: drowsiness, dizziness, confusion or lightheadedness, shortness of breath, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, tiredness, leg pain, muscle weakness, agitation, irritability, nervousness, anxiety, rash or itching, headache, and/or constipation. These side effects are generally mild and do not require to you stop treatment.
