Butalbital is a prescription medication that's specifically designed to provide fast relief from tension headaches due to stress, anxiety, fatigue, poor posture, and/or overexertion.

How does Butalbital work?

Butalbital constricts dilated blood vessels that contribute to headache pain, and helps slow down nerve impulses so that you can relax.

How is Butalbital taken?

Take Butalbital exactly as directed by your doctor. For tension headaches, the normal prescribed dose for adults is 1-2 capsules or tablets every four hours as needed (not to exceed more than 6 pills within a 24-hour period).

Butalbital precautions

If more severe side effects occur, such as an allergic reaction, slow or weak breathing, liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue), or low blood sugar (fatigue, increased hunger or thirst, dizziness, or fainting) stop taking Butalbital and seek emergency medical attention.

Butalbital side effects

Common side effects you may experience while you are taking this prescription medicine include the following: drowsiness, dizziness, confusion or lightheadedness, shortness of breath, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, tiredness, leg pain, muscle weakness, agitation, irritability, nervousness, anxiety, rash or itching, headache, and/or constipation. These side effects are generally mild and do not require to you stop treatment.
